“Five stars for the hotel stay, two stars for the booking process. We had our wedding room block at this hotel and I used to work in hotel sales, so we figured it would be painless and I wanted our sales manager to have an easy time with us. We originally looked at the hotel almost two years ago but didn't sign an agreement until about a year later.
I sent the list of rooms we needed reserved for the wedding party to our sales manager with their names, room types, requested the bridal party and grooms party to be on separate floors, and we negotiated a complimentary suite for myself and my husband upon meeting the block. Didn't hear back for a few months after we sent the room list request and, when I followed up, was told that the party had to make reservations separately. I thought it was odd, since I'm used to these requests having done the job before and would make them under the couple's name and the guests would change the info and offer a card upon check-in, but sure, we'll ask them to make their own reservations.
About a month out, the sales manager told us the block was about to close and offered a two week extension. We accepted and were very grateful since we still had guests who hadn't made their travel plans yet. When I asked to reserve rooms again for the wedding party and put them under my name, we were told the hotel had sold out and the guests would be moved to the hotel next door. We figured our guests had filled up the rest of the block in that short amount of time since the extension was granted. They ended up squeezing a few guests in last minute which we appreciated.
The stay was great! Front desk staff was super sweet and I thought the text message "how is everything" feature was a nice touch. The room was beautiful and we loved having the extra space for friends and family to visit over our two day stay.
After the stay, we received an invoice for the full price of the suite. I reached out to the sales manager to ask why it was charged since our block had filled up and the suite being waived was part of the concession, but he said the hotel had sold out and our room block didn't fill since it expired... despite the offer to extend the block by two weeks. That explained why a lot of our guests weren't able to book the hotel. We were really disappointed--overlooking requests via email wasn't a huge deal since I understand hotel sales can be busy. I wasn't a huge fan of having to ask twice to reserve rooms for my wedding party since I knew this was a common request as someone who had done the job before.
The thing that put us over the line was responding to an invoice on our honeymoon for a charge we weren't expecting that would have been avoided if our block had been extended like it should have been. If the block couldn't have been extended, the offer shouldn't have been made.
I'm still in the wedding industry and will suggest other hotels for my clients for their room blocks. I'm pretty patient since I understand the industry, but I don't want any of my couples experiencing the headache we experienced. I'll send family that way for individual reservations, though, since the property is great!”
